Find the safest route home

Research conducted by Cornell university in 2015 found that 85% of women in the United States have experienced street harassment before the age of 18. Women are twice as likely as men to say they’re afraid to walk home alone. This fear of violence is as profound as violence itself because it shapes and narrows the lives of women in so many ways, every day.

The Shield app allows women to find the safest route home and share their location + route with selected friends. The user receives a confirmation when a friend has accepted their invite, so the user knows exactly who is watching out for them as they make their way home. Additionally, with one touch of the emergency button the app alerts both emergency services and the users contacts of their current location, signaling to emergency services to dispatch assistance to their precise locations.
